ABSTRACT
This study is aimed to examine the difficulties in English speaking skills of Non English Major at Sekolah TinggillmuTarbiyah (STIT) Pemalang, to explore the factors that make them difficult to speak, and to describe the strategies done by the students to overcome the difficulties in English Speaking lessons. This research was conducted under qualitative descriptive method Involving 70 students from the beginner and intermediate English classes of Non-English Department at the first semester This study used observation and interview for data collection techniques findings revealed thatof Non-English Major
The the at Sekolah TinggillmuTarbiyah (STIT) Pemalang had difficulties on speaking skill in the following fields vocabulary building, pronunciation of correct words, correct grammar speaking fluency, and spoken comprehension This study found that there are two factors affected them from speaking internal and external factors Among the internal factors are fear of mistakes, shy, anxiety, lack of confidence, the external factors are no English book, no translation tool, no English laboratory, not supportive classmate, lack of family and social supports This study also found that the students tried to solve the difficulties by singing English song and making note before speaking in front of the class for internal factors while for external factors they made group discussion and class toom activities
